Orchestrating BIM the Vico Way
Friday, August 15, 2008 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM EDT
What We Will Cover:
Building a 3D fly-through movie is not the end goal of BIM, just a sales presentation tool. In order to receive the full benefit of BIM and go deeper and broader on your next project, Vico Software has designed a proven methodology called The Content Plan. The Content Plan has been used on over 200 successful projects around the world as a way to systematically organize project data for every single checkpoint in the BIM process. The Content Plan describes how to build the building model including what components should be modeled so that you can create estimates and schedules from the BIM. And in practice, The Vico Way integrates multiple disciplines and provides a coordination point for downstream analyses. Simply put, the Vico Way delivers a better building for the dollar.
Another key tool in The Vico Way is the Model Progression Specification (MPS). The MPS defines the interaction between the architect, design team, estimators and schedulers and guides the process of design evolution. This framework for evolving the design from a very schematic level of detail to a very high level of detail in terms of 3D geometry, cost, and time has been pioneered at Webcor and adopted by the AIA as the preferred methodology.
--Define a "purpose-based model" so that you include elements for estimating and scheduling
--Create Resource-loaded schedule by location that contains all the Methods and Resources
--Devise a model-based flow-line schedule with the estimating data extracted from the model
--With the cost-loaded schedule you can create cash-flow diagrams for the Owner
--With the location-based schedule and control chart connect to cost data, checking the schedule status becomes an easy task
--Plot planned versus actual progress on EVA curve, highlighting schedule performance indicators
Join us for our Fridays with Vico webinar session and learn how to incorporate this methodology and techniques in your next project. 5D Virtual Construction is a natural extension of BIM. Let Vico show you the way.
